MEETING AT EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF NEUROSURGICAL SOCIETIES SEPTEMBER 2023

We had the opportunity to interview Dr. Ruben Fanarjyan and Dr. Sevak Badalyan regarding the state of neurosurgical care in Armenia and our ongoing missions to support their people and neurosurgical services.

October 2020

Dr. Grigorian traveled to Armenia after the conflict started to provide neurosurgical trauma support with instruments and implants.

Training in 2009

  • Trained about 25 specialist 
  • Staff preparation for the future hospital- doctors, nurses, techs
  • Rotations extended to 6-12 months
  • Small salary supplements
  • Housing provided by member of neurosurgical practice


2010-2012

  • First aneurysm clipping
  • First aneurysm coiling
  • First AVM embolization
  • First embolization of AVF
  • First treatment of vasospasm with balloon angioplasty
  • First treatment of vasospasm with prolong verapamil infusion
  • First CEA and CAS

Training 2004-2006

  • Rotational fellowship-Radiology, Family practice-2004 (2 physicians -2 months rotations)
  • Neurosurgeon-completed 3 weeks observational fellowship
  • 2 Obstetricians-completed 2 months fellowship
  • Plastic surgeon- completed 3 months fellowship
  • Fellowship-sleep studies-I neurologist 


2001

In collaboration with Yerevan State Medical University, Medical College of Georgia, and Georgia Neurological Institute, Dr. Grigorian provided spinal stabilization sets, ICP monitoring equipment, and endoscopic equipment.
